Born November 30, 1667 to Protestant Anglo-Irish parents, Jonathan and Abigail, Jonathan Swift became a powerful and honey Irish writer. Although his father died before his birth and his mother unexpended him in the care of relatives, his education did not suffer. He be Kilkenny Grammar School and graduated from Trinity College in Dublin. He went on to receive an M.A. from Oxford University and a D.D. from Dublin University. Swifts books were heavily influenced by religion. His influences were not just from his upbringing, but as easily as having held position in the church on several levels. Even though this style was most markedly satirical, he did man board to dabble in prose and poetry. Ironically, his most notable work was Gullivers Travels. It was in this work that he entertained children and adults alike with a fantastic tail of fiction. Invariably, level off this was laden with deep sardonic content. Although suffering from Menieres disease since 1689, in 1735 it became more acute, causing periods of nausea and dizziness. It was also during this time that his ret rospect began to deteriorate. In 1738, at th! e age of 61, he tragically suffered a paralytic stroke and slipped into senility.
